Caspar David Friedrich – Der Zeichner

The Kupferstich-Kabinett in Dresden's Residenzschloss focuses on Caspar David Friedrich's artistic process. Friedrich's drawings are characterized by great sensitivity and at the same time precision. They were created on hikes through Dresden's near and distant countryside, but also during his trips home to Greifswald and Rügen or to the Giant Mountains. For Friedrich, hiking and drawing go hand in hand. Even today, you can still sense the concentration and dedication with which Friedrich captured nature in his drawings. His radical subjectivity and at the same time high degree of accuracy in his depictions remain undiminished. The presence of his art can be experienced above all in front of the originals themselves. His hiking trails become visible in the exhibition and encourage visitors to follow his paths on their own hikes.
